Brainsport Times May 3, 2017

Each year one of the highlights of the Saskatchewan Marathon event is the pasta dinner; not only because there's tons of yummy carb loading to be done, but also because of the keynote speakers. This year two local runners will be headlining the event - Jason Warick and Tarrant Cross Child.

In his prime Jason was one of Canada's top long distance runners, captaining the Canadian National Marathon team, and owning a marathon PR of 2:19:39, which he ran in Chicago in 2006. Jason now coaches a group of competitive runners here in Saskatoon, including Tarrant Cross Child - winner of the 1998 Saskatchewan Marathon.

In this week's Q&A we're having a conversation with Jason and Tarrant about their upcoming gig at the Saskatchewan Marathon!

Q&A with Jason Warick and Tarrant Cross Child

Tara: You both have a lot to give in terms of sharing your running experiences with others. What motivates you to share your personal stories?

Tarrant: The more I share my story the more I learn it's not about me. I share to help and encourage others. Knowing that my experiences both good and bad can help others.

Jason: Tarrant, your personal story is so powerful. For me, it’s also about highlighting incredible journeys of runners in Kenya, Guatemala, Northern Saskatchewan and right here in Saskatoon.

Tara:  What will be the focus of your keynote address at the pasta dinner?

Jason: We’ll show you the many ways one person can change the world through running, and we’d like to inspire you to do the same.

Tarrant: Exactly.

Tarrant (left) and Jason will be taking the stage at this year's Saskatchewan Marathon pasta dinner.

Tara: What are you hoping people take away from your address?

Tarrant: I hope they hear a message of hope and restoration while being encouraged and inspired to be the best that they can be not only as runners but in life as well.

Jason: We’re going to try to make you cry and laugh, but not while eating your pasta. But seriously, we hope you’ll get pumped up if you’re racing Sunday. More importantly, after the race is over, we hope you’ll think about how to use your running (or other abilities) to make the world a better place.

Tara: Who do you think will benefit from hearing the both of you speak?

Tarrant: All people, whether they are seasoned runners or new to the sport or never ran at all. This message is for all.

Jason: Exactly.

Tara: Is there anything else either of you would like to add?

Jason: There will be surprise guests!

Tarrant: It'll be a fun and inspiring evening for all walks of life. We are honoured to share our stories with you and look forward to seeing you at this year's pasta supper.
