Brainsport Times Nov. 14, 2018
We're pleased to announce the PatTrick course is returning to the Brainsport Running Academy starting later this month. This unique course is led by longtime coach Pat Somerville, who is here to talk to us today about it.
Before we get to our conversation with Pat, all the best to everyone participating in the Gingerbread Run this weekend - good luck catching that speedy Gingerbread Man!
Q&A with Pat Somerville
Tara: A lot of our readers will be familiar with your coaching, but for those who aren't can you tell us about yourself?
Pat: For those who don’t know my coaching style; sign up...you will be shocked by how you progress. They will also be able to find themselves surrounded by a group of like-minded athletes that love not only the sport; but athletes that want to persevere and improve as well as share their knowledge and love of the sport.
Tara: What makes this course unique to other Brainsport Running Academy courses?
Pat: Anyone who has been in the Brainsport Academy knows that it can be as challenging as one makes it. What sets this one apart is that it is a 41-week program that will allow participants to push themselves beyond their known limits. I design a program that is adaptable to the participants’ level of running ability; they may choose to do as little or as many of the workouts that are scheduled.

Tara: What is your goal with participants of the course?
Pat: My goal for the athletes is to enjoy themselves while running. However more importantly they will find that they personally will set their own goals that they want to achieve over the 41-week period.
Tara: What do you have to say to those who are on the fence about signing up?
Pat: To Anyone on the fence, I say ‘try it.’ You will love the group atmosphere and push yourself harder than you would running by yourself.
Tara: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Pat: Not that I want to turn runners away but a person interested in this clinic should be capable of running a minimum of one hour consistently to be able to fit into this clinic comfortably.
Our plan is set into three phases. One phase ends with the Brainsport Brainfreeze; the next phase ends with the Boston Marathon or Saskatchewan Marathon (full/half). The half/full Marathon. The final phase will end with the Queen City Marathon, Berlin Marathon, or Chicago Marathons.
