Access to Justice Week gets underway on October 22 at the U of S College of Law. You may ask, what does this have to do with the running community? Well, this year Just Rights, a student-led fundraising group at the College of Law, is putting on a 5K run to raise awareness and access to justice issues facing the legal community in the province. All the proceeds from the event will go to CLASSIC (Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City Inc.); making this event an opportunity for everyone who enjoys running or walking, to take part in influencing the local justice system. Michelle Brandsma, from the College of Law, is here to tell us all about the Run for Justice in this week's Q&A!Q&A with Michelle BrandsmaTara: Before we get talking about the event itself, tell us about the Justice Rights group, which is hosting the race.

Michelle: Just Rights is a social justice advocacy group at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan. Each year we choose a legal issue to raise awareness of and fundraise for. This year, we've decided to host this inaugural 5k to raise awareness of issues in accessing justice in Saskatoon. All the proceeds from this run will go to Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City Inc. (CLASSIC).Tara: The run is put on in conjunction with Access to Justice week at the College of Law. What can you tell us about the week, and how the run plays into it?Michelle: This 5K is the first event in Access to Justice week. This week is devoted to discussing the issues in accessing legal services and information across the province. It also highlights the initiatives that aid in improving access to

justice for Saskatchewan residents.

With this being the first-ever Run For Justice, there are no photos of previous year's runs to share, so we're going with the logo this week. 
 
Tara: Why did the group feel a run would be a great way to help raise awareness and funds for CLASSIC?Michelle: We felt that a 5K would be a fun event for law students, but would also help reach a wider community in Saskatoon. We hoped this would bring people to a place where they could both have fun and learn about an important issue. Tara: What can people expect from the run in terms of distance, route, etc.? Michelle: This is a 5K walk/run which will start at the College of Law lobby on October 20 at 9 a.m. T-shirts are included in the registration, along with a post-run donut from Pals Donuts. The route itself is still to be determined. Upcoming EventsRun for Justice FundraiserOn October 20, join U of S College of Law students in kicking-off Access to Justice Week in the student-led Run For Justice - a 5K run (or walk) at the U of S. Everyone is welcome to this event, which is intended to invite the community together to raise awareness and encourage conversations about challenges in accessing justice. All proceeds from this run will be donated to CLASSIC (Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City Inc.), an organization committed to working toward access to justice for low-income, marginalized Saskatchewan residents. Registration is $35 plus processing fees. PC Children's Charity Halloween Fun Run

On October 14, bring out the whole family including your kids, cousins, nieces and nephews and the grandparents to take part in a 2K or 5K walk or run on an out-and-back route along the South Saskatchewan River.Wear a Halloween costume and be entered into the costume contest as well. The Active Start Program (ages 2-7) and FUNdamentalsprogram (ages 7-12) will run Thursday evenings from September 20 to December 6.
